Chinese Herbalism
This form of treatment is where herbs and plants are used to provide the body with support in order to combat many adverse states. The adverse states can be divided into different types according to the energies that are affected by this state and different plants and herbs can be used to treat each adverse condition depending on what type of energy is affected or is causing the adverse state.
Homeopathy can conceivably treat any condition, because it addresses every body system.
It can be used in some emergency situations, such as shock or injury and tackles emotional conditions such as panic, anxiety or fear.
It may be particularly useful in:
- Long-term and relapsing disorders
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Anxiety
- Shock
- Nervous tension
- Eczema
- Menstrual and menopausal problems
- Problems in pregnancy including morning sickness
How does it work?
Chinese herbalism is the use of herbs to treat and prevent physical and emotional ill-health. The Chinese herbal tradition dates back more than 3,000 years and ancient pharmacopoeia detailing herbs and their effects still exist today.
The Chinese believe that each one of us is governed by the opposing, but complementary, forces of yin and yang. They also believe that "Chi" is the energy that binds yin and yang. When chi is unbalanced, it can lead to illness.
Chi flows through the meridians of the body and herbalism allows chi to flow smoothly restoring harmony to the whole person.
The herbs may be in raw form or processed into pills, powders, ointments, liquid tonics or teas. They are classified according to their properties. The majority are of plant origin, but a few are from mineral sources or from animal products.
Rarely is one herb used alone, but more often, in a combination of up to 12 herbs. They combine to complement and assist each other, and sometimes, to moderate and modify the actions of each other or counteract each other's side effects.
Note: Chinese herbal teas can be notoriously unpalatable to Western tastes.
