BSSK Events started life in 2000, as the fund raising arm of the British School of Spiritual Knowledge. The school was established with the aim of providing a platform for those with spiritual information and teachings to provide this to others. The intention was that the school would provide the funding for rooms and teaching centres local to people who want to receive spiritually based courses and workshops, pay the tutors and allow those seeking the information to receive it without price being an issue - if they were able to pay towards it, great, if not, no problem.
The founders and all the staff worked voluntarily, but in order to achieve its aims, the School needed funds. It was decided that a fund raising arm, BSSK Events, would be established to run shows in a similar vein to the ethos behind the School, and that the profits from the shows would go towards funding the aims and objectives of the School.
In reality, the shows became more and more popular, whilst interest in the work of the School declined and we ended up with a 'tail wagging the dog' scenario. The Events arm, initially established as support for the School became the major feature of BSSK.
In 2007, the original founders decided to follow separate paths, and the School became redundant completely. BSSK Events Ltd, became BSSK Events, under the sole proprietorship of Angie Jury (formerly Simmons), one of the original founders.
This meant BSSK was now a 'business' rather than a 'not for profit' voluntary organisation. Even so, BSSK Events still does not look to profit from the stand holder's fees. After payment for the venue and associated costs, all fees paid by exhibitors (and usually a good portion of the visitor entry fees), are invested into promoting the event. This way of doing things has meant the shows have grown and become established, and because profit is not the primary concern, many feel the energy and core focus of the event to be much softer and enjoyable.
Angie always says that provided they can cover their expenses and not cost her money, she is happy. If they make a little too, that is a bonus, but it usually gets invested back into some new idea she is developing anyway!
We often get asked "What does BSSK stand for?" The answer these days is nothing at all! The original name BSSK Events was retained because by now, it is familiar to so many people, both exhibitors and public alike, that changing it seemed a little pointless.
In 2007 Angie met her now partner, Chris, who has become a key player in the events, providing strong support and a sounding board for her ideas. Together they hope to cement BSSK Events as a key provider of quality, enjoyable events. Ones that exhibitors find both enjoyable and profitable and ones that the public look out for and await eagerly.
